GO SOBER™ is an effective, out-patient, alcohol treatment program that treats the underlying cause for continued failure to quit. Continued drinking in spite of negative consequences is the brain’s attempt to stop anxiety and derive calmness. You continue to drink because you no longer have the choice to feel calm without it. At some point, abuse became addiction as the brain built tolerance. Now, abstinence merely frustrates the brain’s normal reward mechanism. Until you drink, you remain focused on consuming alcohol and everything else is less important.

This is a hotly debated topic. The medical community says, “Yes.” Many detractors say, “No, it’s a personal choice.” Substantial evidence and general acceptance among researchers indicate a significant percentage of the population is predisposed to pursue behaviors which can result in addiction. This condition called Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) motivates individuals to do things which produce dopamine, and other natural brain reward chemicals. Any effective alcohol treatment program first addresses the failure mechanism causing repeat, destructive drinking behavior. Most “treatment” programs deny access and/or advocate techniques to recognize behavior and consciously modify it. Both are fine, but generally ineffective. Until an individual is able to concentrate on daily life without constant sabotage, sobriety is exceedingly difficult to achieve and maintain. Effective treatment restores normal brain reward capability and then facilitates conditions to stimulate natural reward chemistry production.

Yes, you have to quit permanently. If you are unwilling to quit permanently or if you think you can control occasional drinking, you’re mistaken. You’re obviously concerned about your drinking, which is good. We recommend you talk with us or an experienced addiction counselor who can help put the overall situation into the proper perspective. We can provide excellent referrals to counselors who share our philosophy and will help you deal with your current issues and problems until you are ready to quit permanently. Part of being ready to quit is realizing that drinking no longer works for you, you want to stop and you need help. The medication enables you to stay focused on this without the sabotage. After you’ve taken it, you won’t feel the need to protect your desire to drink because you won’t have it. Nor, will you waste time thinking that you can control it, because you can’t. That’s why you’re here, remember?

No. Same thing. Presumably, the alcohol/drug/mind altering experience isn’t working anymore. It was fun for a while and it even helped you avoid some anxiety in difficult or unpleasant situations. But, that’s no longer the case and whatever the substance, it controls you, not the other way around. Since GO SOBER™ is out-patient based, there is no need to miss weeks or months of work or interfere with important scheduled events. Once you’ve received treatment, you’ll no longer have a lingering compulsion to drink. However, several clients request monitoring and documentation as evidence of sustained sobriety for a variety of personal reasons (child custody, court order, spouse/family assurance, etc.). We offer voluntary, Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) monitoring via a portable device/smart phone combination. The phone generates text reminders to complete scheduled tests within specific timeframes. The device uses facial recognition software and GPS technology to generate verified reports establishing identity, location, date, time and BAC.
